Bobby Brown: Homeless...and Suing for Custody?!

Just when you thought it couldn’t become any more bizarre than it already was. Just when you wrongly assumed that certain people had slammed face-first into rock bottom and had enough of public ridicule by the media. Just when you managed to get it twisted enough to hazard the guess that Bobby Brown was through publicly embarrassing himself, along comes (back) Bobby to prove, Mo’Kelly and the rest of the world wrong.

OK, Bobby, my bad. You were right and Mo’Kelly was wrong. So sorry for underestimating your masochistic tendencies.

Bobby Brown has not had enough. And has long as he hasn’t had enough…Mo’Kelly surely hasn’t had enough either.

Let the verbal beatings begin…(begin again that is.)

If this was a melodramatic TV miniseries and you just happened to pick it up in the middle of this epic sitcom, let Mo’Kelly the narrator bring you up to speed in Cliffs Notes form.

· Bobby Brown is a recovering/relapsing substance abuser.

· Bobby Brown is a recovering/relapsing inmate due to delinquent child support payments. He most recently relapsed at another daughter’s cheerleading event.

· Whitney Houston is a recovering/rumored relapsing substance abuser.

· Whitney Houston recently filed for divorce from the other, aforementioned recovering/relapsing substance abuser/inmate.

· Whitney Houston was granted sole legal and physical custody of 14-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina through a default judgment (read: Brown didn’t show up due to various relapses)

(Did Mo’Kelly forget to mention anything of note?)

If that wasn’t enough to make a crackhead spin, Bobby Brown filed documents on April 26th alleging that financial and emotional problems kept him from responding to Houston’s divorce petition in time.

Somehow, Mo’Kelly believes THAT much is true. Financial and emotional problems have been a common and recurrent theme in the life of Bobby Brown. If there’s anything true to be said about Bob, financial and emotional problems should be somewhere in the paragraph.

But Mo’Kelly digresses…

OK, let’s see if Mo’Kelly has this straight.

Bobby Brown is suing to gain custody over one of his daughters, because (as he argues) he was financially unable to provide for his other children and unable to make it to the custody hearing? He wants custody of one child and is using his failings as a father of his other illegitimate children to help make his case?

"It was no secret that I (as well as Whitney) had financial commitments which we could not meet. Additionally, after Whitney and I had separated, I had no where to go and very little money to live on. I was, for all intents and purposes, homeless. My marriage had fallen apart, I was without a home, I had no money, and I was experiencing legal problems associated with my child support obligations. It is no wonder that by the end of 2006 I had become distraught and depressed."

- Bobby Brown (the petitioner)

Mo’Kelly isn’t a legal scholar, but one can only assume that when arguing to gain custody of a child, you might want to omit everything that proves you are an unfit, deadbeat dad.

Just a suggestion.

Nothing says “stable family environment” like “homeless,”“legal problems” and/or “distraught and depressed.” Nothing swings a custody hearing in your favor quicker than other words like “unable to meet child support obligations” in reference to your OTHER children.

There are probably a thousand different ways to paint a picture of a happy home for a judge to side with you Bob…but THAT wasn’t one of them. It wasn’t like he started the paragraph with “ALTHOUGH it was no secret…” and ended with “BUT NOW, I can say I have…and can offer…and am sure…” He simply left off with how horrible his life was/is, with no modifier as to how it’s improved in the meantime. No mention of a stable income, stable home environment or anything remotely redeeming in nature.

If I’m Whitney Houston, I say NOTHING, except…

“Your honor, I agree with everything my homeless, distraught, depressed and financially unstable ex-husband said. Yes, he is a mess. I throw myself on the mercy of the court.”

Chances are, if you can’t support the kids you already have while your room and board are paid for by one of the most successful artists in the history of music, you probably can’t support them +2 more…Bobbi Kristina and yourself after she’s gone.

At face value, none of this makes sense.

But then after a little more reading…

The documents supplied by Bobby Brown also indicated that he is seeking child support AND spousal support…in addition to shared custody. If we strip away the legalese, that means, Bobby is using his daughter to get back on the Whitney Houston gravy train. He wants Whitney to pay HIM to live and pay him to “take care of” Bobby Kristina in a “shared” custodial agreement.

How “Bobby Brown” of him.

Bobbi Kristina is presently 14 years old. It’s safe to say that her formative years, despite how incredibly destructive they might have been, are long gone. The damage has been done and is likely irreversible in nature. That horse has been out of the barn for quite some time and it’s not coming back until it’s in the form of a bottle of glue. If Bobby wanted to be a part of his daughter’s life and be a meaningful influence in her life, he might have opted for jail a little less often than he has. If you total up all of the time Bobby was in jail, court or should’ve been in court; that would likely equal 5 years that could’ve been spent with Bobbi Kristina, more than a third of her life to date. Now, all he can realistically hope for are supervised visits in a public setting.

That said; Bobby Kristina’s needs her father’s presence in her life in 2007 about as much as Bobby Brown needs more crack in his (allegedly).

As in…not really.

Bobby’s had enough crack (allegedly) to last a lifetime and Bobbi Kristina has had enough of “daddy” for a lifetime. Mo’Kelly’s not psychic, but close enough. If Bobby Kristina manages to end up somewhere in life that doesn’t include a thong, a metal pole, a sparkling disco ball spinning above her head, and dollar bills at her feet…it will be nothing short of a miracle. Such a destination though would be well within her right and completely understandable. If anyone deserves a free pass or a life sympathy card, it’s Bobbi Kristina.

And how does Bobby pay a lawyer these days anyhow…in food stamps? 33% of zero is still zero. The King of R&B on food stamps…just so sad…somewhat…well, kinda sorta…um, not really.
